You're right about the color. Every time I look at it, the first thing that catches my eyes is the greens and then the blues. The subject gets lost in all of it. The b&w definitely makes the subject stand out. This is a wonderful image, Don! It took a lot of work. The one unfortunate thing is that you lose those red drops of blood that add to the story in the b&w.
Awesome shot! I wonder if a little "selective color" to take down the saturation of blues and greens to, or almost to, B/W would help bring focus back to the subject particularly of the yellows of the beak and claws?

I know…I try to down the green and it just doesn’t look the same…
